Condensation alone is enough to cause problems after one or two seasons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The pellets in the tank.<\/strong> The tank is not airtight. Pellets that absorb moisture swell up and block the screw conveyor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Corrosion.<\/strong> The housing and the screw are not designed for outdoor use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The combustion process itself.<\/strong> A pellet stove operates using a precisely regulated air flow. Wind around an open installation disrupts this, resulting in inconsistent combustion and error messages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Veranda: the power is greater than you think<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A veranda is the most common scenario, and the most common mistake is to underestimate the power required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Glass insulates much less effectively than a wall. That\u2019s a job for a professional, and it\u2019s the most expensive part of the project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Air supply.<\/strong> A modern conservatory is often quite airtight. In such cases, an external air supply is recommended or even compulsory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Free distances.<\/strong> Different minimum distances apply to glass than to a wall. Please refer to the manufacturer\u2019s installation diagram.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The floor.<\/strong> A floor slab is usually required where the sub-base is combustible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Garden shed or outbuilding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Technically, this is the same as a standard room, with three additional points to bear in mind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Electricity.<\/strong> There must be a proper connection; no extension lead from the house.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Flue passing through a timber structure.<\/strong> This requires a certified roof penetration with sufficient clearance from combustible materials. People often cut corners here, and that is precisely where they mustn\u2019t.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pellet storage.<\/strong> Do not store the pellets in the garden shed itself unless it is really dry. Most garden sheds are not.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re only going to heat the garden shed occasionally, choose a heater with a low minimum output that heats up quickly, and bear in mind that the building will need to lose its chill first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pellet patio heaters: a different product<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are specialised units available for open or semi-open terraces: freestanding pellet burners that give off heat through radiation, rather than via a fan. Features:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They often operate without electricity, using natural draughts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They provide heat through radiation, so you feel the heat directly rather than the heat in the room<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They don\u2019t need a flue, as they\u2019re installed outdoors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The range is limited to a few metres around the device<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So this isn\u2019t about heating a room, but heating people \u2013 much like a patio heater or a fire pit. Don\u2019t expect it to provide the same level of comfort as your living room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you\u2019ll need, whatever happens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For any enclosed space, whether it\u2019s a conservatory, a garden shed or a garage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A fully-fledged flue<\/strong> with the correct diameter and height, correctly routed through the roof or wall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A calculation of the tensile force<\/strong>, because a channel that is too short results in poor combustion and error messages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sufficient combustion air<\/strong>, preferably supplied externally<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Proper floor protection<\/strong> on a flammable surface<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A power socket<\/strong> in a reputable circle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have the flue calculation and installation carried out by a certified installer.
